The State of Ethan Hawke
Hawke will be doing it all as he co-writes, directs and co-stars in the upcoming drama The Hottest State, headlined by Catalina Sandino Moreno.
They're getting out a brand new case of Hyphens for Ethan Hawke. The Hollywood Reporter indicates he's director-writer-screenplay adapter-and co-star of The Hottest State…a low-budget independent drama that began shooting this week with financing by the Japanese investor Entertainment Farm.
The storyline…about a young actor's love and heartbreak with a singer songwriter…is based on the novel of the same name that Hawke got published back in 1996. Mark Webber and Catalina Sandino Moreno head up the cast.
Hawke is one of the supporting players here…but he's in pretty good company in a cast that includes Michelle Williams, Josh Zuckerman, Sonia Braga and Laura Linney. Willie Nelson and Norah Jones will contribute songs to the film.
Hawke does have both significant acting and writing credits. His work co-starring with Denzel Washington in Training Day earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nod back in 2002 and last year he won a nomination for co-adapting the screenplay for Before Sunset with Julie Delpy and Richard Linklater.
