Veneza homenageia Ang Lee
Taiwanese movie director Ang Lee smiles as he shows the Golden Lion with which his gay western film "Brokeback Mountain", a all-life-long tormented secret love story between two homosexual young cowboys in the deep Wyoming of the Sixties, was awarded as best film at the 62nd International Exhibition on Cinema Art, better known as Venice Film Festival, on Saturday 10 September. "Brokeback Mountain" is based on a novel by Pulitzer Award winner Anne Prouxl.

História de amor entre dois cowboys
Festival de Veneza: "Brokeback Mountain", de Ang Lee, vence Leão de Ouro
O realizador Ang Lee venceu o Leão de Ouro do 62º Festival de Cinema de Veneza com o filme "Brokeback Mountain", a história de amor entre dois cowboys num conservador Oeste norte-americano.
Ao receber o galardão, Ang Lee descreveu o seu filme como “uma grande história de amor norte-americana” que tanto tem de “única como de universal”. “Estou muito satisfeito que tenha prevalecido aqui (Veneza) e que tenha sido recebido calorosamente”, acrescentou o realizador de “Brokeback Mountain”, um filme baseado no romance “The Shipping News”, de E. Annie Proulx.
Na edição deste ano do Festival de Cinema de Veneza foi ainda atribuído o Grande Prémio do Júri (Leão de Prata), ao filme do realizador nova-iorquino Abel Ferrara, “Mary”, que conta a história de uma actriz (Juliette Binoche) obcecada pela personagem que interpreta num filme, Maria Madalena, a prostituta, a companheira de Jesus Cristo.
O Prémio Especial para o Melhor Realizador (Leão de Prata) foi para Philippe Garrell pelo "Les Amants Reguliers".
David Strathairn foi eleito melhor actor pela sua interpretação em "Good Night. And, Good Luck", de George Clooney, enquanto Giovanna Mezzogiorno recebeu o prémio de melhor actriz pelo papel em "La Bestia nel Cuore", de Cristina Comencini.
O Prémio Marcello Mastroianni para o melhor actor ou actriz jovem foi para Menothy César, pelo seu trabalho em "Heading South".
