Um dos melhores actores da sua geração.
Soube recentemente quando estava a pesquisar alguma informação sobre o filme Donnie Darko, e o seu protagonista Jake Gyllenhaal, que o actor foi a primeira escolha para o filme The Dreamers (Os Inocentes), de Bertolucci. O papel de jovem americano acabou por ir para Michael Pitt, porque Gyllenhaal, um dos melhores actores da sua geração, primeiro não queria porque tinha outros compromissos, mas essencialmente porque o actor tem critérios artisticos muitos específicos sobre a cenas de nudez explicita, como acontece repetidamente no filme. Nada a apontar, é um critério respeitável.
Nesta cena de Donnie Darko, Donnie (Jake), desmancha uma conferência da personagem irritante de Patrick Swayze, ao desconstruir os seus argumentos para uma vida feliz, em que insere entre o ponto negativo, o medo, e o positivo, o amor...
