O que é Film Noir?

- “Dark film,” a term applied by French critics to a type of American film, usually in the detective or thriller genres, with low-key lighting and a somber mood.

- Genre of film between 1940 and 1960, originating in the United States, employing heavy shadows and patterns of darkness, in which the protagonist dies, meets defeat, or achieves meaningless victory in the end.

- A movie genre which cannot easily be defined or demarcated. The term usually refers to American gangster movies from the '40s and '50s, often adaptations of hard-boiled, contemporary pulp fiction, eg by Raymond Chandler. Film noir movies often take place in the underworld of a large city and are characterized by brutal violence and harsh dialouge. Classic examples are The Maltese Falcon (1941), Kiss of Death (1947), The Naked City (1948), The Asphalt Jungle (1950) and Kiss Me Deadly (1955). Blade Runner is often labeled film noir, although the matter might be discussed. See also tech noir.

- Literally: "Black Film"; describes a genre of film which typically features dark, brooding characters, corruption, detectives, and the seedy side of the big city.

- French phrase meaning "black film"; refers to a genre of film whose subject matter bleak, usually an urban theme of corruption (eg, Orson Wells' Touch of Evil(1958), Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982) and LA Confidential (1998))

- Literally, “black film.”A type of film first made in the United States during and after World War II, characterized by frequent scenes with dark, shadowy lighting; (usually) urban settings; characters motivated by selfishness, greed, cruelty, ambition, and lust; and characters willing to lie, frame, double-cross, and kill or have others killed.The moods of such films tend to be embittered, depressed, cynical, or fatalistic and their plots compressed and convoluted.A Touch of Evil is an example of film noir.
